Alexander (Alex) Gupta, MD is a general surgery resident in the University of California, San Francisco Department of Surgery. He completed his undergraduate training at Southern Methodist University studying Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Biomedical Sciences. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He is currently in his fourth clinical year of surgical residency.

His clinical interests include abdominal organ transplantation. His research interests are based in mechanisms of immune tolerance. He continues to work with Dr. James Gardner, a UCSF transplant surgeon and basic immunologist, studying the fundamental biology of extrathymic Aire-expressing cells as they relate to peripheral tolerance induction.
